Taekwondo

June 19th, 2007

My instructor was lecturing me about the importance of our Taekwondo sparring drills. I enjoyed the drills just as much as everyone else in the dojo, but I was not sure where my instructor was going with this particular lecture. Her large, attentive eyes made contact with mine as they always do. She was just a little shorter than me (and I’m short), but she was an experienced black belt with a lot of skill in Taekwondo. I always enjoyed listening to her lectures, especially when she was speaking to only me.

She continued to tell me about her first competition and how she felt a little anxious about how the competition would go. She was nervous because she was not sure about what exactly went on during the competitions, but was soon taught that we can never be sure about what would take place and where it would take place. On the street, in a hallway, in a parking garage – it could be anywhere by anyone – should we get attacked. We should think of our competitions as just that. It is entering the unknown, and we should use that fear to focus our abilities on training with our Taekwondo sparring drills.

I began to understand what she was talking to me about when she mentioned the word technique. In any martial arts, technique is vital to learning the martial art, as well as winning more competitions. “We learn technique through practice, starting slow and eventually being able to memorize those movements with our bodies. True technique comes with practice and routine,” she continued. I remembered just starting out in Taekwondo and getting each movement just so in a slow and structured manner. Eventually I was able to do any beginner’s move and combination with just the word of my instructor. I saw where she was heading with this particular lecture. I knew I needed to train hard for this first competition of mine, and practicing our sparring drills was a great way to do so.

My instructor had a great way of creating plans for each individual student to follow through for practice for any competition. She gave me mine, and my drill partner – a large man with a black belt proudly tied to his waist. I thought she had mistaken who my drilling partner should be because this man was very experienced and much larger than I. However, drilling with an experienced partner would be good for me. I could learn a lot from him, and sparring with him would be the best way to get ready for my competition. My sparring strategies were to be practicing again what I had learned since I began, but this time I would be sparring, not just practicing alone or with pads.

My favorite sparring drills were working on powering my kicks, and working on my speed. These techniques are vital in Taekwondo. You must have power and speed to succeed. My instructor had also given me a few combinations to practice regularly with my sparring partner and alone. I had to memorize these combinations in order to bring them to the competition with me. Throughout the next few weeks I worked on power, speed, timing, combinations, fake outs, and maintaining my energy. Without my instructor and assigned sparring partner, I could not have won my very first competition.

Poker player

June 19th, 2007

Nowadays, a new kind of poker player is developing. They are the backwards players, tilted backwards and they have one significant attribute that can be appreciated because they have no idea what a nut means. These players are not inexperienced players. They will usually understand draw odds, they know the fact that on a high percentage all other players won’t start with cards that are considered to be the nuts and that players don’t keep a hand that is probably locked. Backwards players aren’t just plain unintelligent. They can develop into good players but they still have to learn. And they hold their money dearly, so they will believe every time that all the players they encounter will do the same with their stacks, that no one will ever risk to lose money for playing them or follow an important purpose.

A backward player will do mostly the opposite of what an experienced player does usually. They will be aggressive most of the times, excepting the situations they have a winning hand. They are players easy to tell, they do what in real poker a scared player does. Once they see an opportunity of winning, they get scared of losing and hold that hand dearly through safe and passive play. So, according to this pattern a backward player that has something will mostly check or bid less when he has a real hand that can aim for the pot. Of course, this seems to any one a bad even crazy idea, to bet less when you actually can win. They are minimizing their winnings through their behavior at the poker table. If they can get to the right table they can actually make a profit out of their gaming style. The right table for a backward player is a table where all players are tight and take no chances, a table where people will fold every time the backward player raises in his usual style.

So, take advantage of the existence of the backward player and go on a hunt for them. They are quite easy to spot. All you have to do is look for that particular table where you can see a player that has a stack much bigger than all the others and that player just keeps on betting his huge bets.

To play a backward player you must know his two great fears: when he is being checked-raised and when he has the winning hand and no one calls. He is not a player that bluffs, he just wants everyone out of the table and will bet as much as he can afford to get them out.
If you check raise a backward player you will let him know that you know his style and you are willing to risk everything just like him because you know you can make a huge profit. He can go all-in here if the is hoping for a draw, fold if he truly has nothing or check when he thinks (and he will probably do this) you will let him be on the turn and the river.

A backwards player, once losing his stack through many consecutive re-raises from you will not give up. He will keep on coming back and if you manage to get his money every time you will get his entire bankroll. So you will get rich in just one poker room in a couple of hours if you can find your backwards player and check-raise him often until he is completely messed up.

Many want-to-be chefs

June 19th, 2007

Many want-to-be chefs and cooks have kitchen cabinets full of unused cookware. They get inspired by infomercials on TV and the Cooking Network and all of a sudden they ‘must have’ that wok, that 3-way spatula or that indoor grill. In TV land, they make cooking look so easy. But when the cookware arrives at their home the inspiration slowly begins to dwindle. They may make a couple of meals from their new cookware. Two weeks pass, the four and the new steak-burger maker goes in a cabinet next to the pressure cooker and the gourmet spinach press. A person with cabinets full of unused cookware is like a dating couple who are all dressed up but no where to go.

So, what does a person do who has a kitchen full of unused cookware? You can have a huge yard sale and use the proceeds to purchase more cookware or you can select a few items and give away the cookware that you will not be using. With the cookware that you do keep, think of creative ways to use it.

You can surf the internet for delicious meals that you can create for family and friends. Try to use your cookware at least every other month to prepare special meals. You may also form a cook group and invite a few people to your home and you can trade recipes, cooking advice and you can trade cookware. This will ultimately force you to use the cookware that you invested in.

If your cooking skills are limited, take a few cooking classes and learn how to prepare edible meals. If you don’t have time to attend classes, you can order cooking DVDs and watch and learn. You may also subscribe to a cooking magazine or purchase a recipe book at bookstore or order on the internet.

When you finally acquire the needed skills to prepare delicious and mouthwatering meals, invite a few friends or family members over to test out your skills. Your friends and family will give you feed back on the various dishes that you prepare.

Once or twice a year, throw a party or invite a few guests to your home and prepare a meal. This will allow you to use your cookware. Remember, don’t over do it with cooking too much food. Make sure that you allow adequate time to plan what you are going to make and allow enough time to make it.

The next time

June 19th, 2007

The next time you prepare for a special holiday dinner or party at your house, turn your kitchen into a caf้. Many caf้ goers are saving their $6 per day favorite coffee or cappuccino and saving their money. Today, the average caf้ coffee drinker spends $1650 or more each year on designer coffees and pastries. A person that craves delicious coffee from their favorite caf้ restaurant can purchase a state of the art cappuccino machine and save a lot of money.

Remember just because person has the latest cappuccino machine and the latest cookware doesn’t necessarily make them a good cook. It takes skill to prepare delicious meals and beverages. Yes, manufacturers of cookware make it easier for people to use various appliances, but the person still needs to know how to cook.

A good cook must know how select, measure, and know how to combine ingredients that would make a delicious meal. Following complete instructions when cooking is very important.

More and more people are succumbing to the cooking bug simply because Coffee lovers can save a lot of money, as mentioned earlier and they can even earn a few extra dollars on the side. Some coffee lovers actually go into the business of making coffee and they sell it to family, friends and co-workers. Others take it a step further and sell coffee beans under their very own brand name on the internet.

A coffee lover must have a nice pastry or meal to go along with their beverage. If one is not a good cook and has a kitchen filled with unused cookware is like a person who is all dressed up and has no where to go. It is suggested that a person take cooking lessons or ask a friend or a relative who is a good cook to teach them how to prepare good meals.

Before purchasing cookware, know exactly what you are going to use it for and how often you are going to use it. If you purchase a gourmet waffle oven for $900 and you haven’t eaten a waffle since the 1980’s, maybe you should think in terms of purchasing equipment that you will often use. There are many people who have so much stuff…cabinets filled with cookware that if they had a yard sale they could put a down payment on a new house. So, remember before investing in that cappuccino maker or that new kitchen appliance, make sure that it is something that you are going to use.

Imagine a woman

June 19th, 2007

Imagine a woman calling her husband from her office job to prepare dinner for that evening for 8:00 pm. The husband decides to make Chinese food rather than take out. The woman’s husband commutes home on a train. He whips out his palm pilot and instructs his cook to make Chinese food in less than 1 hour; they are on their way home.

1 hour later, the family gathers around the dinner table and the maid comes out with a tray of delicious Chinese Cuisine. This happens every night in this household. The wife hasn’t prepared dinner since four Christmas’ ago when the husband ordered the maid through an online catalogue. Kelvit serial number KC234589 is a robot. Her specialty is cooking fine cuisine.

Meanwhile, as the wife takes a bite of her ‘Caliloo’ (spinach mixed with okra) and requests to have it warmed up for about 1 minute. Kelvin opens a microwave door near her abdomen made of steel; the wife places the plate into the microwave and closes the door. The microwave light comes on and in 1 minute, the wife’s food is nice and warm.

This may seem like something from a sci-fi movie. Cookware of the 21st is heading towards that direction. Many people are beginning to eat meals at home rather than eating out. Cooking today is easier than ever because there are so many options to choose from.

Technology in the cooking industry is great because it’s an assistant to busy men and women who do not have time to slave in a kitchen all day just to prepare meals such as baked ziti, tuna casserole or a chicken and rice dinner.

Even refrigerators that store our delicious meals are state of the art. In the late 20th Century, refrigerators with ice makers became the rave. A few years down the line, refrigerators came equipped with ‘crushed’ ice makers and water. Today, in the 21st century, refrigerators come with TV monitors. You can watch television while preparing your meal, eating your meal, cleaning up and storing your food away. Refrigerators even come equipped with computerized screens where you can electronically lock your refrigerator with a code so that greedy family members or guest do not have to sneak and eat your delicious food when you are not around.

As technology in the food industry continues to improve, people are finding more ways to save money on cookware so that they can purchase the latest products

Great accomplishment

June 19th, 2007

Preparing a delicious meal for a party of 12 is a great accomplishment. Organized cooks can really enjoy preparing for a party. It’s enjoyable to shop for foods for your guest. When you conduct your first taste test, you can envision the expression on your guest faces as they bite into your delicious duck with mandarin sauce. Imagine the expression on their faces as they bite into your home made cheese cake. You even took time to purchase the best cookware a cook can buy. But when the party is over, you are left with a kitchen full of cookware.

Smart cooks clean and store their cookware as soon as they are finished using it. When the party is over, they only have a few things to clean and store. Those cooks who do not fit in that category become discouraged when they see the pile of cookware. Some people go days without cleaning.

Make sure that you use the proper cleansing techniques for your cookware. Read the manufactures cleaning guidelines thoroughly. Using the incorrect cleansing techniques can cause bacteria buildup. It can even cause your food to taste funny. One of the most embarrassing moments is when a guest within your home tastes your food and they suddenly want to gag. They are not going to know that you didn’t use the proper cleansing techniques. They are going to think that you are not a good cook. All the cookware in the world is not going save you in that moment. The following tips are techniques ‘not’ to use when storing or cleaning your cookware:

1.) Don’t place a pot filled with cooked food into the refrigerator. Not only is this not healthy, this will make it harder to clean once the food is complete. If you have leftovers in a pot, take time to store it in plastic containers or plastic Ziploc bags.

2.) Don’t use your cookware for other purposes other than cooking. For example, don’t use your new set of spatulas in place of an ice scraper for your car windshield during a snow storm. This will cause your spatula to become disfigured.

3.) Use your cookware for the proper use. Don’t try to fry your bacon with a waffle iron. This could cause burns from the grease, not to mention a fire.

The number one thing to remember is to know when to purchase new cookware. A family air loom from the 1920’s may not be the best cookware to use for your new dish.

A variety of woodworking machinery

June 19th, 2007

A variety of woodworking machinery and tools is needed for both home and professional workshops. Several companies make quality woodworking machinery, including Craftsman, Rockwell, Rigid and Milwaukee.

Craftsman tools and machinery are sold in Sears stores through the country as well as on Sears’ website. Craftsman has maintained a good reputation among experienced professionals and those new to woodworking. The company stands behind their tools, which come with a lifetime warranty. If a tool is defective, simply return it to a Sears store for replacement. Table saws and miter saws are two of the quality tools made by Craftsman. The table saws come in ten and twelve inch models and most have three horsepower motors. The company’s portable models are convenient for carrying to a job site and can be stored in a shed or closet when not in use. Craftsman also makes great sliding compound miter saws in both ten and twelve inch sizes. These miter saws have LaserTrac, a great feature which creates a laser line for increased accuracy when cutting. The blade’s dual bevel style allows the saws to tilt to either side for easier operation and beveled edges.

Rockwell is another popular company. Rockwell tools are not only superior quality but also come with a good warranty. Rockwell makes a wide variety of tools that, with regular maintenance and good cleaning, can last for many years. Rockwell saws are available in nine through twelve inch models. They are made from a strong cast iron and are very durable. Older, vintage Rockwell saws are often found to still be in good condition.

Rigid offers a complete line of power tools to make any home workshop complete. Its contractor style table saws are made with cast iron and included such features as extension rails and micro-adjusted fence dials. Other tools in Rigid’s line of power tools include miter saws, lathes and drill press equipment all of which are also quality tools. In addition, Rigid is always trying to upgrade its tools to a greater quality and convenience. New features are being added to many of its woodworking tools as the new technology is developed. For example, one feature is an exact line laser on its miter saws to further improve accuracy in cutting.

Finally, Milwaukee tools are another great selection of tools for any workshop. Milwaukee routers come with either two or three horsepower motors and the motor contamination shield protects it from damage caused by debris. Other features available include variable speeds, twin handles, a 36 position dial and depth adjustment.

Blackworm

June 19th, 2007

Blackworm is a nasty internet worm which can delete DOC, XLS, MDE, MDB, PPT, PPS, RAR, PDF, PSD, DMP, and ZIP files. In addition to Blackworm, the worm has been named Kama Sutra, Blackmal, MyWife and Nyxem. This worm started on the 3rd of February and has been programmed to attack an infected computer on the 3rd of every month thereafter. So far it has been estimated that over 300,000 computers all over the world have been infected. Besides destroying those types of files, the worm also tries to disable anti-virus software so that it stops updating. It can also disable the keyboard and mouse of infected computers. Some Internet users have already lost important files after becoming infected by the Blackworm mainly because the clock time on their computer was wrong.

Like many Internet worms, Blackworm attempts to spread by mailing itself to contacts in a user’s address book. The e-mails containing the worm can have a wide variety of subject fields and attachment names. The worm also tries to add itself to the auto-start programs in the Windows registy. Once a computer in a network has been infected, Blackworm will try to infect all other systems in the network.

To prevent getting infected by Blackworm you shouldn’t open attachments or click on Web links within these e-mails, especially if these e-mails have a porn-related subject line. Use caution before opening any e-mail attachments, even if you know the sender. You should also backup any important files that you want to preserve. Most antivirus products will detect Blackworm assuming the worm hasn’t disabled the antivirus software. Because of this, it is important to frequently update your antivirus software. It is also recommended to scan your computer for viruses and use a firewall. To prevent the worm from spreading to other computers in a network, you should use strong passwords on all the users accounts.

Beka cookware

June 19th, 2007

For over one hundred years, Beka cookware has been designing and manufacturing the world’s leading gourmet cooking utensils. Founded during the year 1899 in Betzingen, Germany Daniel Braun and Jakob Kemmler were the originators of Beka cookware. After many successful years in Germany, Beka cookware began to expand globally dominating markets in France, Belgium, and eventually to America.

Today, Beka cookware is categorized in two distinct categories. They are the Beka Classic collection, and the Beka Line. The Beka Classic collection contains the Cook and Fry Stainless Steel, the Cook and Fry Aluminum collection, Tools and Specials, and the Cook and Fry Copper collection. The Beka Line includes the Cook and Fry Stainless Steel collection, the Cook and Fry Aluminum collection, and the Cook and Fry Copper collection.

In the Beka Classic Cook and Fry Stainless Steel collection you will find the Creole, Fortuna, the Gourmet Club, the Juwel, the Krea, the Polo, the Saphir, and the Sully. These stainless steel collections are elegant and will compliment every kitchen. They include glass lids, matt finishes, and decorative handles. Many of the cookware include inside capacity lines to let you cook with precision. Using the Stainless Steel collection offers the cook many advantages. Many have non-stick surfaces, and you should make sure that you always cook with wood or plastic utensils to make sure that you don’t inadvertently damage the surface.

Caring for your Beka cookware involves a few simple preventive methods as well as making sure that you take care of any trouble spots or problems immediately. By taking care of these problems immediately, you will ensure the longevity of your cookware.

You should always wash your cookware in hot soapy water and allow them to dry thoroughly. When using your Beka cookware on a range make sure that only the base of your cookware is receiving direct heat. If the heat is higher than the base of the pan, it could cause permanent damage to the handles.

Taking care of your copper cookware is just as important. Your Beka copper cookware will have a protective film over it. You will need to remove this layer before using it for the first time. You can remove it by rubbing it off with Acetone, be sure to wash the pots thoroughly in hot soapy water to remove all traces of the Acetone. It is best to avoid dishwashers when cleaning your copper cookware. You can however use copper polishing products to maintain the luster and beauty of your Beka copper cookware.
